ABSTRACT
In studies referring to regional meteorological phenomena, the Synoptic Climatology contributes to the analysis of interactions between atmospheric circulation and surface conditions. The area assessed in this research is located in the Rosario Department within the province of Santa Fe, where we realized a classification of the synoptic processes associated with severe water deficiencies (SWD) during the critical period (CP) of corn, which affect its yield (Y). The prevailing conditions of circulation patterns related to these air masses (am), show a strong subsidence of air on the northernt partof the country that prevents the rise of the am. Advection (horizontal movement) of warm air from the north and northwest is also observed. The behavior of the am and its circulation fields, associated with cases of SWD, result in a reduction of corn Y, since its influence extends to an important number of departments of the provinces of Santa Fe, Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires.
Keywords: atmospheric circulation, synoptic patterns, yields.
